5th October 2025 marked a special day for Kristus Aman as parishioners and friends came together for "Care for Creation: Planting Seeds of Hope", an afternoon that beautifully wove together faith, environmental stewardship, and community fellowship.
Inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical “Laudato Si’”, which calls all to care for our common home, and reinforced by Pope Leo’s encouragement and the promise of Zechariah 4:10, “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin”; this event invited people of all ages to embrace eco-friendly living, deepening both their faith and their stewardship of the Earth entrusted to our care.
From 2.30 – 5.00 pm, KA buzzed with activity as families engaged in various environmental and educational stations.
Storytelling Session: The highlight for young participants was the Children’s Nature Storytelling Session, led by author Hilda Pillay, who shared the charming and enchanting tale of “Monkey Heist” from her book “The Gut’n’Butt Clinic & Other Stories”. Children aged 7-12 enjoyed the captivating story about monkeys and their adventures and disappearing habitats, sparking awareness about the environment and wildlife.
Interactive Activities: Children who were not in the storytelling gathered around camping chairs and a tent setup, enjoying nature inspired crafts that encouraged exploration.
Nature and Conservation Education Booth: Dominic, a creation care advocate with 15 years of experience, together with some parents from the "Kids In Nature" community group, hosted an informational booth providing activities and resources to help parents connect their children with nature.
Book Sales: Parents could purchase copies of Hilda's book with proceeds contributing to the CHS building fund, adding both lasting memories and meaningful support for CHS.
The event featured multiple learning stations with scheduled demonstrations on:
Pruning and Marcotting techniques
Composting and Vermicompost presentations
Planter Towers & Composting Techniques
Liquid Fertilizer
The KAYM team provided refreshments, ensuring everyone stayed energized while fostering community connections.
While encouraging environmental stewardship was the primary focus, the event also helped raise funds for the new Church of the Holy Spirit planned for construction in Kwasa Damansara. Parishioners could pre-order Vermicompost (supporting chemical free and natural gardening practices) and Planter Towers (innovative vertical growing solutions). Loving and generous supporters for the event donated Plants for sale, and also food and drinks for KAYM’s Refreshments Booth, further enriching the event’s spirit of generosity and care.
This event represents KA's tangible response to Pope Francis' "Laudato Si'" and Pope Leo's continuing encouragement to care for our common home. By combining practical environmental concerns with faith formation, the community demonstrated that caring for creation is a deeply spiritual calling connecting us to God, each other, and all living beings.
Ecological conversion is important and ongoing. While some parishioners may find environmental stewardship inconvenient or challenging to their current lifestyles, such events plant seeds of awareness and encouragement. The journey towards embracing our responsibility as stewards of creation requires patience, education, and gentle transformation of hearts and minds through small steps and community engagement.
Food waste generated from the fruit peels and pulp from KAYM’s Booth was brought to the IPC Recycling Centre after the event for composting.
This event serves as a stepping stone toward KA’s Parish Ecological Pledge, joining other churches throughout the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur and other dioceses across Malaysia in committing to environmental stewardship.
Participants left feeling happy, inspired, and renewed, carrying not just plants and knowledge, and hopefully, a deeper appreciation for their role as stewards of God's creation. The afternoon perfectly embodied the event's invitation: "Come curious, come hopeful... and grow!"
The Care for Creation: Planting Seeds of Hope event demonstrated how faith communities can plant seeds of lasting positive change for both community and environment. It exemplifies Pope Francis' vision in "Laudato Si'" lived out in practical, joyful ways, while acknowledging that ecological conversion is a gradual process that requires ongoing commitment and education.
KA looks forward to continued collaboration in caring for our common home, following the Holy Father's call to environmental stewardship.
