It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…
We, the aspiring Women of Virtue, started Advent 2018 on a wonderful note at our Leader, Margaret Lye’s home on 2 Dec 2018. This was the first event we had after our recent weekend retreat in Port Dickson.
Indeed, we were very happy to see each other again and we also welcomed some new ladies to the group. Among the many ladies present that Sunday afternoon were previous retreat participants whom we had not seen in a long while.
We started with our praise and worship session which was taken to a new level through a spectacular dance performance by Suzie Sivam. As she glided across the floor effortlessly to the music and lyrics of a song that encouraged us to take our light to the world, Susie definitely inspired us in more ways than one. Interestingly, Susie commented that she isn’t a dancer but learnt to worship our Lord in this beautiful way after becoming part of this group.
The spiritual highlight of our afternoon was the building of the Jesse tree.
Lillian Khoo explained the history of this tree to us. Later, we sat in our groups and formed four trees, complete with the biblical verses and story of Christmas. We were encouraged to start this tradition in our own homes, especially among our children.
To add fun, glamour and lots of style to our Advent session, we had for the very first time a Jumble Sale featuring clothes, shoes, handbags, jewellery, teddy bears, hairbands and even Advent wreaths. Needless to say, we ladies had a grand time choosing Christmas gifts for ourselves and our loved ones. The proceeds from this sale will go towards funding the next Womens’ Desk Retreat.
All in all, it was a great day of HOPE for us. Thank you, Margaret Lye for opening your home to us. Thank you, dearest organising team for working tirelessly for us.
