Pusat Caritas was formed in 1977 by the late Rev.Fr. Peter DeCroocq as a BEC of Jesus Caritas Church in the new residential area of Taman Tun Dr. Ismail. This small Pusat Caritas started with only 15 Catholic families... The community grew and eventually a 1st floor of a shop lot had to be rented to meet the needs of the people. Kristus Aman came into being and the first Eucharist was celebrated on 30th April 1983. Under Rev Fr DeCroocq,a council was formed with members helping out in many aspects of the running the church. Sunday school started and as the classes and numbers grew, a parishioner offered part of his office nearby to be used as classrooms. As the number of parishioners grew, Kristus Aman moved next door after renting out both the ground and first floor.
Bursting at our seams, new and bigger premises were needed again. A new 3 storey building was purchased and on Palm Sunday 1994 the Blessed Sacrament was carried in procession by Rev Fr. Philip Soh from the old premises to the new premises at 58, Lorong Rahim Kajai 14, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. The Palm Sunday mass was celebrated on the ground floor of the new premises.
The number of parishioners participating in the Eucharistic celebration in Kristus Aman continues to grow and the ground floor was insufficient to accommodate all in spite of having 2 masses every weekend. The Administrator then was the late Rev. Fr. Benedict Savarimuthu. He was rather taken aback when told that a possible solution was to telecast live the Eucharistic Celebration through video links onto television sets in the upper floors. This was never done before but Rev. Fr. Ben agreed to the need of the close circuit television subject to approval from the Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur. The Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur celebrated mass at Kristus Aman and by the grace of God, everything went well. The CCTV system operated to expectations and soon other chapels like Kristus Kurnia copied the system.
Again as the growth of Kristus Aman continues and more space was needed. Two adjoining 3 storey buildings came available in the market in the late nineties but the Archdiocese did not agree to the purchase plan. However two parishioners bought over the lots and rented the first floors to Kristus Aman for a token sum. The altar was relocated to the first floor when the dividing walls were removed to enlarge the seating capacity across the three building. Kristus Aman has now 6 floor space for Mass and the maximum seating capacity for each mass is 746.
